The Smart Cycle plugs directly into your VCR or TV and requires no need for a separate game system. Simply connect the Smart Cycle to your television's input jacks, insert the included game cartridge "key," and your child can start riding -- and learning -- right away! Your child pedals the bike to keep the game going and "steers" with the movable handlebars. A large, easy-to-use and conveniently placed joy stick and bright buttons control the games and educational tools. The Smart Cycle comes with a "learning adventure," in which your child drives a car by pedaling the bike and turning the handlebars. She can splash through mud puddles and take treacherous corners as she tries to catch letters of the alphabet along the road. We found the Smart Cycle easy to assemble and very simple to install with our television set. All we needed for assembly was a Phillips screwdriver and four "D" batteries (not included). As long as your television or VCR is equipped with the red, white, and yellow RCA jacks to connect the Smart Cycle, you're set to go. We simply connected the included plugs to the television's jacks, turned the television on, and we were ready for hours of fun. Once the game started, the cycle seemed easy enough to operate, making it not too much of a challenge to result in frustrating a child, but not so easy that it would soon become boring. With the additional optional game cartridges, we believe the Smart Cycle promises to be a long-lasting source of entertainment. The Smart Cycle comes with an easy-to-follow instruction manual, and the set-up only took a few minutes. However, one minor set-back we experience was that we needed the paper instruction manual on hand to understand how to play the video game; we found some elements of the games to be nearly impossible to understand without the instructions. An intuitive set of online instructions designed for children to follow, without the need to consult a paper manual, would make for a near-ideal gaming experience for any child (and parent). Also, although the seat offers four height levels, the handlebars are not height adjustable, which may present a problem for some smaller children. Doesn't last long |

I'm sad to say that this bike doesn't last too long. I got it for my first son, he played it a few times (not too much, maybe 20 times in all). We just brought it out for the second kiddo to try and he played it twice and it stopped working all together. The screen garbled and it turned off three times in a row and then it wouldn't turn on anymore. I thought it was the batteries at first, but then I changed them with brand new ones and it still wouldn't turn on. I googled and found that the circuit board has issues and many were returned. Wish I'd known that sooner! I do not recommend this toy, it's quality isn't all that great anyway (but my boys loved it), and then it breaks and makes them sad they can't use it. |

could be much better |

okay, but graphics are very poor quality and especially in an age when they are used to Wii/Xbox360/Ps3 they notice. My 6 year old won't use it and my 3 year old does, but only a little. He can't recognize key details (road signs pointing to the exit) due to the poor graphics quality, so he plays for 10 monutes and stops. It is also repetitive - buy 1 or 2 cartridges and you are set, they all seem to be the same. |

I just read the reviews for the new Smart Cycle and it says this has a known flaw. Our first one broke a few months after we received it. We received a new one and it worked a little longer than 2 months but it is now broke. The smart cycle does not read the programs. So we cut off the cord and have a stationary bike which the kids use very little. Overall, the quality is a piece of trash. Spend the extra money and get the newer version, unless you want to have a stationary bike for the kids. |

I HATE this "toy" |
There is a problem with this "toy" every single time we plug it in. Either it has used up the batteries or the game cards don't work or it shuts off in use. This is our second - as my 5 year old likes it - after having FP replace our last one (for the same problems).
This toy is great fun the rare times it actually works, but typically, I am frustrated and my daughter is distraught when we attempt to get this thing working.
I would NOT recommend this to anyone. Complete frustration for all involved..... |

The grandkids LOVE playing on this toy, although the games are repetitive they are quickly learning numbers and letters. The bike is sturdy although the handle bars broke from the kids pulling them up and down. I contacted Fisher Price.......... they replaced the whole bike because the handle bars connect to the main part of the toy and are not fixable. They were very easy to deal with and I am quite satisfied. |
